A Brief history..

The Winchester House was built in the early part of the 17th Century and still benefits from one of the most enviable scenic river views in London.
According to legend Oliver Cromwell used the house during the Civil War’s Putney Debates, planting a mulberry tree in the garden. The tree stands to this day, still bearing fruit.

Founded in 1892, the Winchester House Club continues to prove itself as a popular and unique venue of choice for both its members and those seeking a perfect setting for their own private events or special occasions. The Club regularly hosts wedding receptions, corporate meetings and private parties for non-members.

Occupying an unrivalled position with a riverside lawn sweeping down to the Thames embankment in Putney, the Winchester House Club is a traditional and thriving private members club offering a range of facilities within a serene setting.

The Club has always had strong sporting connections, and each year hosts several exclusive sporting events and dinners. A key event for us is the University Boat Race as the Club is perfectly positioned just a few hundred yards from the start. The Club also has a popular golf society and a highly successful cricket XI.

We welcome both gentlemen and lady members, over 18 years of age and their families and guests are also welcome to enjoy the atmosphere and unique environment. If you would like to become a member of the Club, or join any of our sporting teams, then please visit the members area.
