Anna Borzello, GUEST SPEAKER EVENT
For as long as London has existed, the River Thames has been a keeper of secrets. Rubbish discarded, treasures lost, and everyday objects swept away by the tide have settled into the riverbed — only to re-emerge centuries later. Each fragment offers a glimpse into the lives of the people who shaped this city, from Roman soldiers to medieval craftsmen to Victorian families.
We are delighted to welcome Anna Borzello, one of London’s most respected mudlarks, for a captivating exploration of the Thames foreshore and the stories hidden within it. Drawing on more than a decade of searching the river at low tide, Anna will reveal what these objects tell us about London’s past — and the people who lived it.
What to Expect
Anna will guide us through the world of mudlarking, including:
· Lost & Found London: How everyday objects — from 17th‑century wig curlers to Stone Age flint tools — illuminate the city’s forgotten histories.
· Reading the River: What the Thames preserves, what it destroys, and why certain artefacts survive for millennia.
· Lives in Fragments: The human stories behind her most intriguing discoveries.
· A Curated Display: A selection of Anna’s personal finds will be on show during the event, offering a rare chance to see these artefacts up close.
