France Beyond Bordeaux: A Fresh Look at French Wine
Join us for a relaxed and sociable Wine Club evening exploring France beyond its most famous labels. This tasting is designed to showcase the breadth and character of French wine once you look past Bordeaux, focusing on distinctive styles, historic regions, and grapes that reward curiosity.
Across the evening, guests will taste six French wines that highlight a different side of France. We’ll explore French sparkling wines from outside Champagne, chosen to show just how much quality and elegance can be found beyond the headline region. We’ll also taste Malbec from Cahors, its original home, where the grape produces darker, more savoury and structured wines than many people expect. Completing the selection will be two wines from the Loire Valley, showcasing the region’s trademark freshness and versatility through both white and red styles.
The tasting will be hosted but informal, with short introductions to each wine and plenty of time to enjoy, compare, and discuss them at your own pace.
To accompany the wines, each table will be served generous grazing platters, featuring a mix of cheeses, cured meats, bread, olives, and complementary accompaniments — substantial, sociable, and well matched to the wines on the evening.
This event is ideal for regular Wine Club attendees, members who enjoy French wine and would like to broaden their horizons, and anyone who prefers a friendly, relaxed tasting rather than a formal wine lecture. No prior wine knowledge is required.
